The MV31 is the perfect vacuum machine for Alaskan's home use.
Most of our MV31 owners, have purchased 2 to 5 suction type machines (@Foodsavers) over the last number of years. Once they move up to a chamber machine, they be really smiling. If you can find a way to make it fit financially, you will surely love it.
Chamber machines solve every problem but one, can't buy it for $300.00.
No heat problems which is the big enemy of the smaller suction machines. Not only will the chamber machines do the volume, there is no bag problems from the heat...( see below)
No bag embossing problems. The only reason the small suction machines work is the embossing in the bag. The machine is sucking on the bag, the embossing allows the bag to collapse and still let the air escape thru the embossing.
Guess what, many times the embossing is not deep enough, thus as the heat builds up in the heat bar, the embossing looses its intergity and goes flat over the heat bar. The indicator goes green and automatically seals the bag with air still inside. Again Heat and Bag problem........
No liquid problems, can vacuum a bag of water. Why? In a chamber machine, you don't vacuum the bag but rather the entire chamber including the bag.
Chamber machines use smooth vacuum precut pouches (no rolls) In Alaska we recommend 4mil bags, the bags cost 50% to 60 % less than embossed bags and are a much better bag. Example, an 8" x 12" 4mil bag in a hundered pack cost $16.00 (.16 a bag)....EMBOSSED, SUCTION MACHINE BAG, SAME SIZE $.40 TO .55 PER BAG....
Technique: No brain surgery in using a chamber machine. In other words, it puts a pleasure back into vacuum packaging and you get the fish vacuum packed without the hassles of shutting off from too much heat....
